EUGENE HAVENGA
Eugene Havenga was born in Port Elizabeth in 1949, and has been in the professional music business since 1968, and has just celebrated 47 years in the music industry. He arrived in Johannesburg in 1970 and joined the Band “Stonecast Feather”, who became “PROUDFOOT “in 1973, with their subsequent hit “DELTA QUEEN”.
From the time he arrived in Johannesburg, Eugene was immediately utilized by many music producers for various projects because of his vocal skill and unique 4 octave range.
I have known Eugene Havenga since the age of 15 yrs old. Eugene and his band “Hand” were playing at His Majesty s cellars in Johannesburg. I went up to him and asked if I could jam with the band. I sang the John Lennon song Mother with his electric guitar and Eugene was the one who noticed my talent and got me my 1st professional gig at His Majesty’s Cellars in Johannesburg.
I performed full time for 6 weeks doing Cabaret genre. I have always known Eugene as the best male vocalist in South Africa. I went to record with Eugene to do my “MY Way” CD as I know he is the best engineer for Jazz and pop music.
He has an excellent ear and also understands the voice and vocal ability because he is also a brilliant vocalist plus a brilliant musician.
We recorded the My Way CD during the covid time and did one take with each track. I decided to award Eugene with Best Engineer and producer in South Africa.
He did an excellent job. To my beautiful talented friend Eugene with all my love. You are simply the Best. Caroline du Preez. Eugeneius you did it My Way.
